June 17, 2004 On Thursday, June 17th, please join us at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Grace Street south side of College, in the heart of Little Italy, for the unveiling of the bronze memorial at Piazza Johnny Lombardi. The presentation and unveiling ceremony will begin at 12:00 noon. Johnny Lombardi….musician, impresario, entrepreneur, broadcaster, visionary, multicultural icon, the many careers of Johnny Lombardi helped share the man that would make a significant impact on the City of Toronto and all those who knew him or knew of him. Fiercely Canadian, proud of heritage, Johnny dedicated his life to his community, to music and to broadcasting. A true visionary, he pioneered multiculturalism and championed the cause and struggle of the immigrant experience and gave voice to new Canadians on his beloved CHIN Radio. Piazza Johnny Lombardi reflects Johnny’s love and commitment to all ethnic communities and will provide an artful, urban oasis for residents and visitors. The artists VERONICA DE NOGALES and EDWIN DAM have created a memorial bronze to a respected figure in the city and have provided a green and restful parkette-oasis for visitors to sit and view the activity on the street that Johnny loved so well.
