SPECIAL TO THE STAR

Entertainment entrepreneur Gino Empry always wanted to both live up high and own an art gallery.

Last November, the man behind Gino Empry Entertainment realized this dream when he moved into his 2,900-square-foot condo in the new Radio City complex on Mutual St., located where CBC Radio once stood. Empry bought 3½ units on the28th floor to house both his residential and office areas.

As for the art gallery, it is right in the condo, with almost every wall and available space covered in original art, prints and sculptures, many from his 12 whirlwind trips around the world.

His most treasured piece is an oil painting of red roses in a vase by Anthony Benedetto that hangs over the gas fireplace in the living room. Empry once managed the artist, who moonlights as singer Tony Bennett.

Almost every wall in Gino Empry's condo features original artworks and prints gathered during his many trips around the world.
The breakfast nook and kitchen are all done with French cherrywood and medium-stained hardwood flooring. The nook has a glass-top table and four dark-stained chairs with red cushions. At right, above, one of many paintings from a large art collection.
Arguably the senior statesman of entertainment and corporate public relations in Toronto, Empry has a full roster of clients including the Vineyard Club at One King West Hotel, Famous People Players and Shopsy's Delis. He's garnering a host of young fans from his regular radio stint every Friday morning from 8 to 9 a.m. on the Dean Blundell Show on 102.1 Radio, The Edge.

To help decorate his spacious condo filled with his beloved plants, he called upon Kaycee Lynne Burgess of Kaycee Lynne Designs.

Empry's foyer has black marble tiles and cream walls. Opposite the front door is a mirrored wall, and in front of it are three statues, including one in dark marble and cherry wood - it's of the goddess of compassion and tranquility.

"You are supposed to rub her head for good luck when you come in," says Empry while demonstrating.

Off the entrance is a powder room with flooring and walls matching the foyer. There is a dark-stained wood vanity with black marble top, three modern paintings and a multi-coloured cabinet with mirror from Morocco.

The guest bedroom has cream walls and broadloom with an Oriental carpet in shades of beige, blue, brown and tan. There is a dark green easy chair and a couch in a stripe of blue, tan and pink - the same material is used on the window valance. Off this bedroom and the master bedroom is one of three terraces.

"My favourite room is the master bedroom; I love the space and when the sun shines through the windows, the view is spectacular," says Empry.

The bedroom is painted cream with two faux finish accent walls in shades of orange.

There are two walls of windows, facing south and east. On the cream carpet are sheepskin rugs.

Gino Empry relishes the views of the city throughout his 2,900-square-foot condo in the new Radio City complex on Mutual St. Even the bathroom has floor-to-ceiling windows.
The queen-size bed has a black leather and chrome headboard with a brown quilt and a brown fur on top.

There are two Japanese black lacquer side tables designed with Geisha girls. A sitting area is by the windows with a cream couch and matching chair with a leopard throw, next to a round brass table with two Chinese antique, teak chairs in front of another gas fireplace.

In the corner of the room is a Louis XIV distressed desk in a medium brown stain. An ornate 130-year-old brass-coloured wood-framed mirror is above.

The ensuite has a huge adjoining dressing room, which would probably be the envy of many of the celebrities he's represented. The walls of the bathroom have three abstract paintings of people celebrating, that he bought in the Dominican Republic.

The flooring is heated beige marble, there's a black-top marble vanity, a steam sauna in his glass shower and a Jacuzzi next to floor-to-ceiling windows.

The wet bar has plenty of soft lighting and shelving for glassware.
"I'm very proud that not too many people have a view of the city from their bathtub. From my bathtub, Toronto looks a little like Paris (when you are) overlooking Allan Gardens," he says.

To the right of the foyer is an open concept den, living room with terrace and dining room that leads to a breakfast nook and the kitchen all done with French cherry wood, medium-stained hardwood flooring.

Off the kitchen is a laundry/storage room, another powder room with grey marble flooring, next to a small office with its own separate entrance from the building's hallway.

The den has French cherry wood built-in shelving, chock full of Inuit soapstone carvings and books up, against cream walls.

There is a grey leather couch and wingback chair surrounding around glass coffee table with more Inuit carvings at its base.

The master bedroom has two walls of windows facing south and east, which allow a spectacular view of the city. It's Empry's favourite room in his condo on the 28th floor.
The living room's cream walls are accented with a black wall where the gas fireplace is located. The windows, facing south and west, are adorned with rich red silk drapes.

The room has a wet bar with a black marble-like laminate counter, a black baby grand piano and a white leather sectional on a red rug with a black stripe. Two French provincial dark-stained wood chairs with red and white upholstery are off to the side. On top of a square, glass coffee table is an arrangement of orchids. By the sectional are brass Moroccan lamps on black and glass elephant tables.

The dining room has flowing green drapes. Near the window is a small artificial Christmas tree.

There is a medium-stained rectangular table with six matching chairs with turquoise and beige striped cushions sit-ting on a blue rug.

There is a matching hutch with blue glasses and vases on display. On one wall is one of two Ertes' signed and numbered prints of a dancer - below is a black textured floating shelf and matching hutch. There is a collection of masks on the wall; above hangs a modern chrome and blue crystal chandelier.

The kitchen walls are painted in a deep red, the cabinetry is French cherry wood with brushed nickel hardware, the countertops and island are black marble, the backsplash is black ceramic tile and the appliances are stainless steel. The third terrace with what Empry deems the best view of downtown is off the kitchen.

The breakfast nook has a Murano glass art deco chandelier with opaque glass leaf petals over a glass-top table and four dark chairs with red cushions. One wall boasts a collection of colourfully painted plates.
